A Neo-Nazi rally happened in tiny Newnan, Georgia today.
According to some reports, as few as 35 Nazis showed up to hear their leader mock men wearing skinny jeans. To protect them, the state had to send 400 heavily armed law enforcement officers in full riot gear.
But that doesn’t mean things were smoothly. The cops were very aggressive with counter-protestors, according to reports from the scene and videos which show use-of-force arrests because of bandanas.
Huffington Posts’s Christopher Mathias was shocked by the brutality of the cops.
“I just witness the most over-aggressive policing I’ve ever seen in #Newnan,” he wrote on twitter. “Tackling protesters and arresting them… for wearing masks.”
The issue was that anti-Nazi activists covered their faces with bandanas—which the cops responded to with violent confrontations and arrests.
Boy leave it to Georgia to avoid upsetting the actual Nazis, and instead focus their hostility on the folks protesting the Nazis.
I think this is the result of the anti-Antifa mentality (Anifa protesters often cover their faces) that has been promoted by Fox News and Right Wing radio.
So now the police in the South see bandana wearing protesters as the enemy, instead of the swastika wearing fascists.

ReplyDeleteIt's the sign that we no longer live in a democracy but a tinpot dictatorship. That means Donald Trump may be the president but he doesn't have the acknowledged authority by the people. Only a handful that make enough noise to make it seem like there are alot. Of coarse, Putin is helping the process too.
After all is said and done, he could write a book about how he did away with our democracy. You know, they say serial killers want to brag and we know Putin is patting himself on the back over all of this.
Trump wouldn't be able to think his way through all of this - much less put it in writing. If a book were published, someone else would have written it, using his name!

DeleteYea I read about this. They were told not to wear mask. Another story was I think in Kansas, the march for their life on Saturday. Those kids were met by a couple hundred gun wearing bullies to protect the state capitol building and rep that they were trying to talk too. They pointed the guns right at them just like at this anti fascist/neo Nazi gig. This is so wrong.

I probably would have opted for face paint. I understand if done right, it really fucks with the cameras and facial recognition software.
