Colin Kaepernick wins Amnesty International's most prestige award.

Courtesy of Time Magazine:

Colin Kaepernick may not have a job on the football field, but much of the world is still cheering for him.

Amnesty International, the global human rights organization, gave Kaepernick its highest honor — the 2018 Ambassador of Conscience Award — in Amsterdam on Saturday. Past winners of the award, which “celebrates individuals and groups who speak out for justice,” include former South Africa president Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, the education activist from Pakistan who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban, and rock group U2.

The organization recognized Kaepernick for his protest against police violence: his action, kneeling during the national anthem before NFL games, sparked a movement replicated across America and the world, starting a debate about free speech and patriotism that was inflamed by the President of the United States, one of Kaepernick’s most relentless critics.

“When high-profile people choose to take a stand for human rights, it emboldens others,” says Augusta Quiney, Amnesty International’s director of Art for Amnesty, a program that works with artists and entertainers on human rights activism. “For us, this is an opportunity to be on the right side of history.”

By the way they don't mention it very much in the new but athletes are still taking a knee all over the country.

And that includes ex-athletes.
Colin Kaepernick may have lost the opportunity to play for the NFL forever as far as we know.

But being remembered in the fight for justice is far more prestigious than being remembered for passes thrown or touchdowns scored anytime.

Well, at least in my book.

Outstanding news! He more than deserved that award. Fuck the NFL! I won't be watching their games this year.

I am proud of Colin and his courageous attempt to bring attention to injustices.
Sadly his valiant efforts totally missed the mark with many of the ignorant white populous.
I personally witnessed interjected opinionated school speeches by racist parents, mostly women. To grade schoolers.

As a sport parent and grey haired hockey mom, I have kneeled every time the Star Spangled banner is sung (much to the offspring's chagrin) and continue to do so at pro sporting events. Who else has the cojones/ovaries to visibly support this movement whether you are black or white, instead of just a computer jockey slacktivist.

It’s also pretty easy to hide behind a keyboard and criticize people.

Good for him. History is going to look upon Kaepernick very favorably.

I spent twenty years in the military. He has the right to take a knee because of the sacrifices of the military. And people have the right to criticize him. I'm sure he knew there would b consequences. My issue is with people saying he is disrespecting the troops by using one of the rights we swear to protect and defend. No, he isn't. Trump is the one disrespecting the troops by using his office to attack the press, attack those who protest and attack his political enemies.

Here's another one. Now, while I believe there is definitley a problem with the NRA and 95% of gun ownership as penis extender, the unequal application in this case is startling. How many times has Gryphen posted articles (especially from Southern, rural areas) where the sheriff's response has been "tragic accident, prayers" But let it be a black man in an urbnan or suburban area, and it's felony charges. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/menzo-brazier-toddler-shot-mom_us_5ada67cde4b075b631e5c63a

I so admire him. If only my senators felt the same degree of honor, integrity and vigilance.

I don't care for football at all and had no clue who he was but I really admire him, I can't imagine how much courage it would take to do what he has done.

I've been a supporter of Amnesty International for a long time. Everyone should be.

It is probably a good thing he is not playing football now. The head injuries are taking down many guys now adays. It has saved his life. There are other things to do in life then play football.

Nobody cares what Bristol is calling herself this week. She will pull this stunt again and again, she is not in love with her husband and never was, she just couldn't keep her legs closed is all.

Poor little Tripp, the bitch is still robbing him of every trace of stability in his young life.

      Hey look!

Moar Palins at the Daily Mail!

This time it's the ass tea!

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5640547/Sarah-Palin-trolled-promoting-skinny-tea.html

"'From Tea Party Diva to Tea Pitching Has-Been!' Twitter users mercilessly troll Sarah Palin for promoting 'skinny tea' on Instagram - and jokingly label the former governor an 'influencer'

Sarah, 54, took to her Instagram and Twitter accounts this week to share a photo of herself drinking Teami Blends 'skinny tea' while offering a 15% off code
The mom claimed her 27-year-old daughter Bristol — who also promotes the brand — turned her on to the tea when she visited her in Texas
Demi Lovato, Blac Chyna, and Ashley Benson are among the celebrities who have shared similar endorsements for Teami Blends
Many Twitter users assumed her post was a paid promotion, but she failed to disclose whether it was sponsored per Federal Trade Commission requirements
The former politician's new role as a social media influencer has gotten a variety of reactions, ranging from supportive to mocking"
