Andrew McCabe's statement after being fired by Jeff Sessions.

Courtesy of CNN:

I have been an FBI Special Agent for over 21 years. I spent half of that time investigating Russian Organized Crime as a street agent and Supervisor in New York City. I have spent the second half of my career focusing on national security issues and protecting this country from terrorism. I served in some of the most challenging, demanding investigative and leadership roles in the FBI. And I was privileged to serve as Deputy Director during a particularly tough time.

For the last year and a half, my family and I have been the targets of an unrelenting assault on our reputation and my service to this country. Articles too numerous to count have leveled every sort of false, defamatory and degrading allegation against us. The President's tweets have amplified and exacerbated it all. He called for my firing. He called for me to be stripped of my pension after more than 20 years of service. And all along we have said nothing, never wanting to distract from the mission of the FBI by addressing the lies told and repeated about us.

No more.

The investigation by the Justice Department's Office of Inspector General (OIG) has to be understood in the context of the attacks on my credibility. The investigation flows from my attempt to explain the FBI's involvement and my supervision of investigations involving Hillary Clinton. I was being portrayed in the media over and over as a political partisan, accused of closing down investigations under political pressure. The FBI was portrayed as caving under that pressure, and making decisions for political rather than law enforcement purposes. Nothing was further from the truth. In fact, this entire investigation stems from my efforts, fully authorized under FBI rules, to set the record straight on behalf of the Bureau, and to make clear that we were continuing an investigation that people in DOJ opposed.

The OIG investigation has focused on information I chose to share with a reporter through my public affairs officer and a legal counselor. As Deputy Director, I was one of only a few people who had the authority to do that. It was not a secret, it took place over several days, and others, including the Director, were aware of the interaction with the reporter. It was the type of exchange with the media that the Deputy Director oversees several times per week. In fact, it was the same type of work that I continued to do under Director Wray, at his request. The investigation subsequently focused on who I talked to, when I talked to them, and so forth. During these inquiries, I answered questions truthfully and as accurately as I could amidst the chaos that surrounded me. And when I thought my answers were misunderstood, I contacted investigators to correct them.

But looking at that in isolation completely misses the big picture. The big picture is a tale of what can happen when law enforcement is politicized, public servants are attacked, and people who are supposed to cherish and protect our institutions become instruments for damaging those institutions and people.

Here is the reality: I am being singled out and treated this way because of the role I played, the actions I took, and the events I witnessed in the aftermath of the firing of James Comey. The release of this report was accelerated only after my testimony to the House Intelligence Committee revealed that I would corroborate former Director Comey's accounts of his discussions with the President. The OIG's focus on me and this report became a part of an unprecedented effort by the Administration, driven by the President himself, to remove me from my position, destroy my reputation, and possibly strip me of a pension that I worked 21 years to earn. The accelerated release of the report, and the punitive actions taken in response, make sense only when viewed through this lens. Thursday's comments from the White House are just the latest example of this.

This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally. It is part of this Administration's ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation, which continue to this day. Their persistence in this campaign only highlights the importance of the Special Counsel's work.

I have always prided myself on serving my country with distinction and integrity, and I always encouraged those around me to do the same. Just ask them. To have my career end in this way, and to be accused of lacking candor when at worst I was distracted in the midst of chaotic events, is incredibly disappointing and unfair. But it will not erase the important work I was privileged to be a part of, the results of which will in the end be revealed for the country to see.

I have unfailing faith in the men and women of the FBI and I am confident that their efforts to seek justice will not be deterred.

Even if McCabe deserved to be let go, which from this statement does not seem at all clear, the fact that they did it just two days before he was eligible for his pension, is simply indefensible.

There are many who are suggesting that Trump had Sessions do this in order to damage his reputation and make it easier to fire him, thus allowing him to appoint an Attorney General who could oversee or fire Robert Mueller.

If that turns out to be the case it will identify Jeff Sessions as the biggest schmuck in Justice Department history.

As it is Trump has really crossed a red line of his own, and influential people are now coming forward to say the things we all have been saying for over a year now.

Such as this from former CIA chief John Brennan.
And this from a retired four star general.
Donald Trump might believe he is keeping the true motivations for his actions secret, but obviously that is not the case.

DJT is a GD idiot and to point out all the myriad examples would be a waste of my time, but all those sealed indictments are just waiting to rain on his parade, lol.

OT but fascinating. ICYMI England just accused Russia of War Crimes which raises the specter of prosecution in The Hague.

    Interesting times.

"This’ll be known as the ‘Friday Night Slaughter’. The very idea that Jeff Sessions hasn’t released something to inform the public of what this is, it was done in a kind of a cloak of secrecy late at night, bizarre fashion. The fact that he was about to have his pension and they couldn’t let it go. It’s something very cruel and sad that’s occurred tonight. And I hope our country is going to wake up, I mean, Donald Trump is struggling for his life. He’s paranoid, he decided McCabe was too close to Comey, and he decided to get rid of anybody and anything that’s standing in his way of kind of survival mode right now. I think we can say tonight that the Trump White House is at war with our FBI."

    https://www.politicususa.com/2018/03/17/friday-night-slaughter.html

"As his presidency becomes at risk of being wiped away by scandal, Trump is increasingly lashing out at the FBI as a way to both discredit the agency and stock it with people who will do his bidding.

It is long past time for Republican lawmakers to wake up and do their jobs. In times of crisis, when a president is abusing his power and waging war on America’s law enforcement agencies, it is up to Congress to step in and protect our democracy was presidential overreach and corruption."

The World will be better the moment that justice is served to trump and putin for their war crimes and delusional actions. Humanity has suffered. We the people await justice served to end this awful crime against the World. NO mercy for their heartless souls will be given. A lifetime in prison will not be enough justice for both of them.

    1. This is going to resonate with workers and ex-workers, union or not, throughout the U.S. They all know someone who was fired right before qualifying for their pensions. In some cases THEY were the ones fired before getting their pensions. They are not going to swallow that petty excuse swill that Sessions and Trump are peddling because they themselves have been subjected to made up bullshit to cover this petty firing.

They cheated McCabe out of a fucking $60,000 a year. Working people of the U.S. will be livid.

And the Democrats will be too STUPID to use this as a rallying cry in the November elections.

‘Are the Trump people stupid?’: CNN security expert claims McCabe firing has ‘unleashed’ him to go after the president

...Speaking with CNN host, Julia Kayyem said she wasn’t worried about McCabe’s pension – that has been put in jeopardy by the last minute firing — saying he will more than make up the difference with a tell-all book, before adding that it the Trump administration should be the ones who should be worried now that McCabe has been “unleashed.”

“I want to get away from process, away from politics, away from you know just the gut wrenching feeling all of us feel for McCabe’s pension,” Kayyem began. “Trust me, he is going to be fine. WATCH: House intel Dem unleashes blistering assault on Trump administration ‘horror show’ that led to McCabe firing

...“I think it is a really sad day again in the continuing horror show that is the Donald Trump administration,” Gutierrez before letting his frustration show. “To fire — I mean, let’s face it, McCabe got fired because the president didn’t like him, didn’t like his political affiliations — he made that clear to us. He didn’t like the fact that McCabe’s wife had run for the state legislature in Virginia and received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Democrats.”

“And that was the attack of President Trump against the man was about to retire in 26 hours,” he continued. “So he was already out of the loop, had taken a leave of absence months ago. So why the rush? I think we know why the rush. And now we have the attorney general of the United States, Mr. Jeff Sessions saying, ‘well, you know, I fired him after looking at this because we really can’t believe Mr. McCabe.’ Really? Jeff Sessions is talking about who we can’t believe? The same man who went before the Senate during his confirmation and denied he ever met with the Russians and now has had to recuse himself from the Russian investigation?”

“Look, this is an administration that can’t tell the truth and so we need to arrive at the conclusion that this was clearly political. and you know, how vindictive, how small of the president of the United States,” he added. “There are men and women who are out there on the front lines in Iraq and around the world defending our nation, there are kids getting shot in our schools, there is an epidemic of people dying from overdoses. and what is the president minding? These little vindictive small fights, ‘let’s get rid of McCabe and deny him his pension.'”

Despite taking his pension, Donald Trump can’t stop Andrew McCabe from cashing in

...But now that Trump has fired him in such controversial and grotesque fashion, it’s put McCabe in a position to really cash in. If he does write a book, it’ll sell ten times better than it otherwise would have. He’ll be offered lecture circuit opportunities and political punditry jobs.

Seeing how pissed McCabe is, and how loudly he’s already begun speaking out against Trump overnight, he’s now likely to jump on anything that’ll allow him to help take Trump down. Those opportunities will also tend to be much more profitable than whatever he was making as a government employee at the FBI, or whatever his pension might have paid him each month. In fact he may not even lose his pension.

Donald Trump has late night meltdown after firing Andrew McCabe

...Best anyone can tell, there is no one in the FBI who is siding with Trump on this. In fact Trump has just set himself up for potential retribution from any FBI employees who might be in a position to leak dirt about his Trump-Russia scandal. But as Trump continues to further unravel, he seems to care more about winning these demented and pointless personal feuds than he does about salvaging his dying presidency or keeping himself out of prison.

Meanwhile, because Andrew McCabe is a witness in Donald Trump’s illegal firing of FBI Director James Comey, it looks like Donald Trump just set himself up for even more criminal charges with respect to obstruction of justice and witness tampering. His tweet only paints himself as being even more guilty.

...Ultimately, whether or not McCabe’s firing was justified seems to depend entirely on one’s subjective opinion of McCabe’s former boss and current president, Donald Trump. We’ll leave that determination alone.

As for McCabe’s legal recourse? That’s more objectively dealt with. And it doesn’t look there’s much for the recently-fired careerist to work with. He’ll probably be okay, though. Andrew McCabe has an estimated net worth of $11 million.

“Firing Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe at 10pm on a Friday night is an attack on law enforcement staggering in both its cowardice and vindictiveness," Rep. By waiting until after business on Friday Sessions may have been going through the motions for Trump on something that is basically a moot point. Jeff Sessions’ stunningly dishonest rationale for firing Andrew McCabe

The AG wants employees to do as he says, not as he does.

...That Sessions would cite an alleged lack of candor as a reason to fire McCabe just hours before the career FBI agent was to become eligible for his government pension is stunning, given his own repeated lack of candor during sworn testimony — dishonesty that led to Sessions recusing himself from the Russia investigation last year.

Not only was Sessions dishonest when he told senators during his confirmation hearing that he “did not have communications with the Russians,” but his explanations for why he met with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at least twice during the 2016 presidential campaign kept shifting throughout 2017. During testimony last October, Sessions retreated all the way to merely denying “a continuing exchange of information” with Russian officials.

Now, the attorney general — who has repeatedly been publicly pressured by President Trump to do more to stymie Trump’s political enemies — wants the American public to believe he fired McCabe because he’s concerned about integrity.

McCabe is a *Republican* who was pretextually fired for actions that hurt the *Clinton campaign*. And Trump is celebrating. That tells you all you need to know about the prospective rather than retrospective motivation behind this firing.

This is all about a future impeachment.

But this criminal and complicit GOP doesn't care about law and order, or the Constitution. We are basically in a whirlwind of shit with these freaks in the GOP refusing to uphold the Constitution and the law.

Andrew McCabe has lawyered up, The Daily Beast reports.

Michael Bromwich, who is representing McCabe, was formerly the inspector general of the Justice Department.

Mueller's appointment is in more danger now than it ever has been. Warner's tweet is an SOS to all leaders of conscience in the U.S. to publicly state that firing Mueller is a red line Trump mustn't cross—and crossing it would mark the beginning of the end of Trump's presidency.

Please remember: the man who fired McCabe for a single act of "lack of candor" not only was recused from all election-related cases and therefore *without authority* to issue that firing, but also *perjured himself multiple times before Congress*.

    What's happening is *insane*.

  43. Who's next? That smart money is on McMaster.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/donald-trump-hr-mcmaster-national-security-adviser-fire-decided-latest-a8260111.html

"The White House is trying to downplay mounting speculation Donald Trump is set to fire his national security adviser - a move that would mark just the latest in a series of oustings and departures at the highest ranks of his administration.

For several days, there have been reports Mr Trump was considering getting rid of former general HR McMaster, who has served as national security adviser after his predecessor, Micheal Flynn, was forced to resign just days into the job in February 2017. There were also reports Mr Trump might fire his Chief of Staff, John Kelly.

On Thursday night, the Washington Post said Mr Trump had made up his mind to get rid of Mr McMaster but that the move would not happen immediately. Other reports said Mr Kelly had been told his job was safe."

"Hours afterwards, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, claimed reports about Mr McMaster’s imminent demise were wrong. “Just spoke to @POTUS and Gen HR McMaster - contrary to reports they have a good working relationship and there are no changes at the NSC,” she said on Twitter."

Well, that's the kiss of death. When Walleye Hucksterbee says your job is safe, start clearing out your desk.
