Vice reporter discounts the idea that the White Nationalist protest in Charlottesville had anything to do with Confederate statues.

In the aftermath of the violence at the “Unite the Right” white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, footage captured by HBO's “Vice News Tonight” has routinely been cited as showing what happened with the most accuracy and clarity. While usually there is a delay before episodes hit YouTube, Vice posted this one right away.

Elle Reeve, the Vice reporter who helmed the piece, was a guest on Sunday's edition of “Face the Nation” on CBS to discuss what she witnessed in Charlottesville and the reaction to the episode as part of a panel. In light of President Donald Trump's comments that “good people” were protesting quietly on the first night, she was asked what she saw.

“This was an unannounced event, but a very well-organized one,” she began. “When we arrived, there were vans dropping off white nationalists at the field. On the field, there were organizers doing crowd control, security, handing out tiki torches. They picked tiki torches as to be menacing, sometimes they call it a torch-lit vigil, because it’s supposed to be an offensive spin on a candlelight vigil.”

“Once they started marching, they didn't talk about Robert E. Lee being a brilliant military tactician, they chanted about Jews,” she said. “They wanted to be menacing, it's not an accident.”

That whole thing about protesting the taking down of Confederate was just a thin cover for the REAL reason they were protesting and that was to  incite violence and gain national attention.

And if there is any lingering doubt about that then just remember this guy:

This is actually how I see most of these White Supremacists.

Tough talking macho men online, pathetic little bitches in the real world.

  1. Keep in mind this is all about "branding".

That is why they invented the term "alt-right" and why they are now inventing the term "alt-left".

They are calling themselves "nationalists" instead of White Nationalists.

And these marches are now being called Freedom of Speech rallies. Because what patriotic American wouldn't be for freedom of speech? It also paints black those that oppose them as being against the first amendment.

They are using "Cosmopolitan" and "Globalism" as cover words for anti-semitism.

This is about branding, semantics and vocabulary.

If we are not very careful we will follow the path Germany walked leading to WWII. Twitler is already our Chancellor. Only this time he already has nukes.

i hate to point it out, again, that these nuts have the same right to freedom of speech as we do. take away theirs and we could be next. trump is working hard to remove a LOT of our freedoms, not to mention our right to vote. thanks to our states refusing to give up who and where we voters are we still can. we need to fight that sort of things, along with the alt-right. and i no longer bother with anyone who says they are-patriots, freedom lovers, "for our flag,ect-because they are ALL the worst kind of people. by the way,i suggest you do not vote to thank Obama, and not sign an on line "birthday card"-i spell a rat with those."they are not endorsing any politcal party".

“I’m not saying it is true, but I am suggesting that it is completely plausible,” Idaho Falls Rep. Bryan Zollinger wrote on Facebook.

5:05, please explain a few things for me. Who? Why? On what are you basing YOUR question?

Leaving an open slap like that is almost as bad as what the alt-right does against people who disagree with them. It can be said to be pointed at anyone when questioned. It can be taken almost any way the reader wishes. And easily defended by the author saying I wasn't talking about HER!

      Specifics, please?

I watched the Vice piece on the day of the march or right after. i was taken aback by what was being said and shown. I was impressed watching Elle's skill in going with the conversation, and asking further when confronted (especially when the alt-right guys showered her with) their various demonstrations of the speech and behavior of question. There were a couple of times Elle had a look of "Really? Does your mother know?" But she would redirect herself and get even more info out of the various characters present. Thx Vice-HBO for producing and getting this out, and great job especially Elle. Well Done!

I thought it was odd that they let her in (embedded with them). I mean, don't a lot of these guys think you need to be both white and male to count for something? I wondered why they all seemed so keen to answer her questions. No disrespect intended for her skill as noted by 5:10 pm, but did she remind them of their little sisters or something?

Good point. My thought is that they wanted to get their message out, and were possibly fans of Vice. They also were not quite to the place of fully espousing what they're saying. Then again Vice apparently sent a blond-haired white woman, and not a woman of color.

I also thought that the "Vice" piece was well done. The tiki torches resemble the torches used by Nazis in their giant marches as Hitler came to power. They were used to mimic what happened in Germany in the 1930's. It was all done deliberately to force the neo-Nazi points across and to instill fear in Jews, African-Americans, Hispanics and gays as well as the rest of us. Nothing kind or well meaning about the crowds of neo-Nazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville that weekend.

    3. She was female so no threat. Plus white and blonde.

I'm sure they were interested in getting their message out. Plus they're gonna be on HBO!

O/T though it does have to do with racist Sara

Sean Spicer's Mic on Twitter does a lot of legal stuff. Really laughed at Sara's court filings.

I can't cut and paste it here but it was posted today Mon 8/21 at about 6:30 pm. So maybe you will find it.

He calls her declaration "absurd." It's loaded with references to magazine articles. He posts the court docs.

Spicer's Mic is one of my favorite Twitter reads. Sometimes he is very heavy with legal stuff, but I just scan past it if it's not interesting and read his non-legal comments which are always very good.

He also always corrects mistakes, which I appreciate.

(Actually, now that I think of it, I'm not sure if it is a he or a she. Apologies to Spicer's Mic if I've misstated gender.)

What an odd and twitchy little man, yet he believes that he is genetically superior to those of other races.

    Sure dude, whatever.

You, the dorky chinless wonder-dude, the ugly chicks, the fat guys and the rest of your crew seem like genetically compromised human specimens, not examples of some "master race".

"Authorities are looking for a 20-year-old Butte man suspected of shooting seven reindeer five fatally at a farm near Palmer in January.

Caleb G. Bennett, a former employee at the Williams Reindeer Farm in Butte, is believed to have left the state, Alaska State Troopers said.

Since we have not contacted him, we don't have the benefit having a motive he might share with us,'' Capt. Dennis Casanovas said Friday.

Bennett was indicted Thursday on five counts of criminal mischief following a two-month investigation by troopers. The District Attorney's office also has charged Bennett with seven counts of animal cruelty and one count of weapons misconduct.

The charges carry penalties that total a maximum of 33 years in prison and $330,000 in fines.

Leads from local residents helped investigators narrow their focus to Bennett, Casanovas said.

The public in general was so outraged by this cruelty to animals,'' Casanovas said. It's very refreshing to see the level of cooperation from the community that helped us solve this case.''

The reindeer were shot with a .22-caliber rifle in the early morning hours of Jan. 31. One of the animals was killed immediately, two others had to be euthanized and two died of the wounds the following day. The animals were valued at a total of $15,000.

Troopers believe Bennett was the snowmachiner who stopped at the fence of the farm, shot the animals, then sped off. Bennett had briefly worked for farm owners Tom and Gene Williams in 1998."
